 What is the role of school libraries in Ontario's schools in the 21st century? Only about half of Ontario's elementary schools have a teacher-librarian either full-time or part-time staffing the school library and there is no provincial policy governing school libraries.

 This 2006 study shows a link between school libraries and students’ reading achievement. In this unique study, commissioned by the Ontario Library Association, researchers from Queen’s University’s Faculty of Education collaborated with People for Education to examine data from Ontario’s EQAO testing body, and data from People for Education’s annual school survey.

A 2003 report from the Canadian Coalition on School Libraries shows shows that students who attend schools with well-funded, properly-stocked libraries managed by qualified teacher-librarians, have higher achievement, improved literacy and greater success at the post-secondary level.
